Health Officials in Flagler County, Florida have received confirmation from the state lab that specimens received from individuals affected by the gastrointestinal illness are all positive for norovirus.
WFTV reported that there was a mystery illness spreading through Flagler County and that more than 200 people had gotten sick. Many of them were school children in Palm Coast, but, until recently, health officials were not sure what the illness was or how it was being spread.
The Flagler County Health Department and Flagler County schools organized an information session on gastrointestinal outbreaks. People infected and having symptoms of norovirus are contagious from the moment they begin feeling ill to at least three days after recovery. The health department says, in order to control further outbreaks, you should isolate ill people at home, exclude ill people from school or work for three days after symptoms stop, increase hand-washing substantially and increase the cleaning of surfaces in bathrooms and cafeterias.
