Atlanta Weather: Rain Headed To Atlanta, Snow To Mountains

Heavy rains are headed to metro Atlanta Thursday, with snow possible in the north Georgia mountains. A flood watch will be in effect for most of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, beginning on Friday evening.

Some areas could see 1.5 inches of rain with 2.5 inches possible south of Atlanta. Local forecasters say watch for flooding in some of the flood prone areas, and ponding of water on the roads. The bulk of the heaviest rain will be from midnight Thursday to midmorning Friday.

High winds could also be a problem with winds reaching 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the north Georgia mountains.

A wind advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday for areas northwest of a line from Americus to Macon to Lexington.
