Developing: Winter Storm Watch Issued For North Georgia

A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of north Georgia on Thursday morning.

Counties under the watch include Banks, Clay, Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Habersham, Hall, Lumpin, Rabun, Towns, Union and White counties.

The winter storm watch is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. Rain will develop on Friday and then turn to snow by Friday evening across the north Georgia mountains.

The snow could be mixed with sleet and freezing rain at times, especially after midnight Friday and into early Saturday morning. Snow and sleet accumulations could be 3 to 6 inches in the mountains and 1 to 3 inches at lower elevations.

Ice accumulations due to freezing rain are also possible early Saturday morning, especially across portions of northeast Georgia.

Watch for pictures - we'll post them as soon as they start coming in.
